Educational Assessments (Including Dyslexia)

Educational psychologists help when children struggle at school, either with their learning, or their social interactions, emotions or behaviour. Educational psychologists spend a day focused on your child, looking at how your child learns and any obstacles to their progress or wellbeing.

Our assessments typically follow this process:

1. An initial call with one of our care coordinators.

2. Everlief set up the assessment for you.

3. The Educational Psychologist (EP) reads your pre-assessment form and the school referral form.

4. The EP goes into the school and works with your child in the morning. This may include observation in class if appropriate and will usually include a cognitive assessment plus other assessments depending on the situation.

5. In the afternoon there is a one-hour consultation appointment for between the EP, the school and parents. They will talk through their findings and recommendations and you can ask questions.

6. They then produce a detailed report with strengths, difficulties and recommendations. Together with an action plan to support your child’s learning and wellbeing.

Everlief provides two types of educational assessments:

a) Standard educational assessment. This is suitable if you are trying to understand how to help your child’s learning at school and usually focuses on specific areas of concern. The assessment includes discussion with parents and school, a full assessment looking at the quantitative and qualitative aspects of your child’s learning along with a detailed report outlining recommendations. These assessments are £830 plus travel (£40-60).

b) Enhanced educational assessment. Where the assessment is commissioned to provide a report for a EHC Needs assessment (often due to long waits) we do need to provide an additional breadth of assessment, typically including communication skills, social, emotional and mental health, sensory and physical development, and independence skills. This is broader than is normally needed for a standard educational assessment and takes longer to write up. There is a surcharge of £140 for these “Enhanced assessments” so £970 plus travel to and fro the school (£40-60)

11-Plus Appeals Assessments

There are occasions where understanding your child’s ability can help you decide the right support or direction for their learning. For example, if you are appealing the transfer test (11+) outcome and you need to show your child’s ability, we can do this using a WISC-V assessment.

Assessing for High IQ (Giftedness)

You may feel your child is gifted and by understanding their ability (IQ) this can help you shape plans to keep them interested in learning as they pass through school. Once again, we can do this with a WISC-V assessment.
